Broncos hope DeMarcus Ware can again bounce back from back injury

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Denver Broncos linebacker DeMarcus Ware may not play much, if at all, in the preseason because of back troubles. The team has taken a handle-with-care approach with the 34-year-old.
As the Broncos move into the second week of training camp, after Tuesday’s off day for the players, coach Gary Kubiak has said his mindset is to have Ware ready for the regular season, and linebacker Von Miller is right there with the head coach.
“To have him, it’s just important,” Miller said. “He’s going to give us our best chance to win. When he’s 100 percent, he’s going to give us our best chance to win. He’s DeMarcus Ware. Him at 100 percent, ready to go, there’s not that many things that he can’t do on the football field.”
Miller, ever ready with a verbal jab or two for his teammates, is always dropping what Ware calls “the old jokes — the ones about my age.” But beyond the humor, Miller has a respect for Ware on all matters, football and non-football alike.
Miller, who signed a six-year, $114.5 million contract last month, said this week he often consults Ware on life, liberty and the pursuit of quarterbacks. On a team level, the Broncos have always considered Ware an important voice in Miller’s rise from talented sack artist to franchise player. Miller also consulted Ware on his recent contract negotiations with the Broncos.
