Contreras gaining chemistry with pitchers

CHICAGO — Kyle Hendricks was pretty pumped about throwing a shutout. So was his catcher, Cubs rookie Willson Contreras.
“That’s my goal as a catcher — keep the starters going as long as you can,” Contreras said Tuesday.
Hendricks and Contreras combined on the shutout, which was the second in Hendricks’ career.
“He’s getting in a good rhythm with these guys,” Cubs manager Joe Maddon said of the young catcher.

• Kris Bryant did not start Tuesday against the Marlins, and Maddon said he should’ve sat the third baseman sooner.
