Rosenthal could return before end of August

CINCINNATI — Encouraged by the results from Trevor Rosenthal’s exam with orthopedist Neal ElAttrache on Tuesday, the Cardinals are hopeful that the right-hander will be back in their bullpen before the end of the month.
Rosenthal was placed on the 15-day disabled list a week ago following his complaint of discomfort in his right arm. Subsequent exams found no structural issues within his elbow but did reveal inflammation around his right rotator cuff. He had a platelet-rich plasma injection in his right shoulder on Tuesday and will refrain from throwing for the next five-to-seven days while that takes effect.
After that rest, Rosenthal is expected to begin a throwing program.
“I think, for him, he feels pretty confident that this will help get him over that hump and then allow him to get throwing again,” general manager John Mozeliak said. “We’re very optimistic that by late August he should be ready to go.”
