Story to have thumb surgery, miss rest of ’16

The Rockies will be without a big part of their offense moving forward, as rookie shortstop Trevor Story was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday with a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb, which will undergo potential season-ending surgery, the shortstop said. The club recalled infielder Rafael Ynoa from Triple-A Albuquerque in a corresponding roster move.
Story was injured on Saturday against the Mets while sliding into second base. A half-inning later, he jammed his thumb while diving for a ground ball.
Story, 23, is batting .272 with 67 runs, 21 doubles, four triples, 27 home runs, 72 RBIs, 35 walks and eight stolen bases in 97 games as a rookie. Entering Tuesday, his 27 home runs led the National League and his 72 RBIs were fifth …
