DeMarcus Walker has evolved into Florida State’s candid, lead voice

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — DeMarcus Walker sat at the podium and delivered the first you’re-going-to-want-to-write-this-down moment of the Florida State media scrum at ACC media days.
This 2016 defense, his defense, can be as good as the Seminoles’ 2013 unit, Walker said. Memories fade quickly in college football, so last season Florida State posted a reminder of how good that group was. A Twitter graphic showed eight of the starting 11 had become NFL starters. Another was a third-round pick, and the other two (including future No. 5 pick Jalen Ramsey) were still in school.
It was a shocking statement, one that seized the attention of those listening in that pocket of The Westin Charlotte. But the greatest surprise lay with the fact it was Walker who said it.

The senior defensive end was one of the more reticent speakers on the Seminoles early in his career. Media sessions were short and forgettable.
