Rams’ increased spotlight includes HBO taping ‘Hard Knocks’

IRVINE, Calif. — The cameras completely circle the interviewee. Reporters line two and three deep. Microphones emerge from the pack from radio types.
It’s a typical crowded scene at any Los Angeles sporting event. Just not so familiar if you’re a player with the Los Angeles Rams.
The Rams have spent the last 22 years in St. Louis, far from a media center like Los Angeles.
“In St. Louis, the main newspaper was the Post-Dispatch,” said Artis Twyman, the Rams senior director of communications. “It was kind of a one-newspaper town. But here you have more newspapers, more television stations. You also have Spanish radio, television and newspapers. We didn’t have that in St. Louis.”

The Rams estimate they have issued up to 250 media credentials for their summer camp at UC Irvine, not counting an additional 30 for HBO’s “Hard Knocks” documentary crew. They estimated they would peak at about 75 credentials in St. Louis.
