After the 2016 NHL Draft ended, news broke that the Blue Jackets had acquired Scott Harrington from the Maple Leafs along with a conditional pick. The newest Blue Jacket is a Kingston, Ontario, native and was a second-round draft pick of the Penguins in 2011.

BlueJackets.com spoke with the 23-year-old defenseman about his new start with the Blue Jackets, and what he brings to the organization.

CBJ.com: When did you find out you had been traded?

Harrington: I found out by phone call. Toronto’s GM [Lou Lamoriello] called me minutes or seconds after the trade went through. I was just sitting at home not doing too much, and then I got the phone call. I found out, I guess, whenever you guys probably did.

CBJ.com: Who did you speak to from the Blue Jackets organization once you had found out?

Harrington: I believe Mr. [GM Jarmo] Kekalainen called me moments after [Lamoriello] did just to let me know from the other side that I had been traded to Columbus. It was a very exciting few minutes, that’s for sure.

CBJ.com: What were your emotions like after the news had sunk in?

Harrington: I think any time you get traded it takes a couple minutes …
