Five-run fifth sinks Brewers against Padres

SAN DIEGO — The Padres struck for five runs in the fifth inning Monday night, paving the way for a 7-3 win over the Brewers in the series opener at Petco Park.
Milwaukee starter Jimmy Nelson worked around four hits and three walks to limit San Diego to just one run during the first four innings. The 27-year-old righty was unable to record an out in the fifth with the first five Padres batters reaching base and eventually scoring. Ryan Schimpf ended Nelson’s day with an RBI triple down the right field line — his second extra-base hit of the game.
