Texas DFAs Wilson, Holaday; Chirinos No. 2 catcher

ARLINGTON — The Rangers’ catching situation underwent upheaval with the acquisition of Jonathan Lucroy from the Brewers on Monday.
To start with, Bobby Wilson and Bryan Holaday were designated for assignment as Lucroy comes in to be the No. 1 catcher.

“It’s a little bittersweet,” Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said. “That’s the tough part of it. Somebody comes in, somebody has to go. Those guys did an unbelievable job. They are one of the reasons we are where we are in the standings.”
Robinson Chirinos, who missed two months with a broken right forearm, also becomes the No. 2 catcher. He had been sharing the duties with Wilson while Holaday had been on the disabled list because of a bruised right thumb.
