Red Sox activate Kimbrel 3 weeks after surgery

SEATTLE — When closer Craig Kimbrel elected surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee, the Boston Red Sox outlined a best-case scenario in which he would miss only three weeks.
On Monday, exactly three weeks after having surgery, Kimbrel was reinstated from the disabled list.
“Everybody put a lot of work in to get me where I am,” Kimbrel said upon rejoining the Red Sox for the opener of a four-game series at Safeco Field. “Haven’t hit a lot of speed bumps, so it’s been great. I’m a little tired of watching the games on TV. Ready to get out there and help this team go.”
