Jaylon Smith optimistic about future, but no timetable for return

OXNARD, Calif. — Jaylon Smith spends much of his day running sprints with an elastic cord around his waist while Dallas Cowboys rehab specialist Britt Brown holds the other end of the cord.
Smith, the Cowboys’ second-round pick in this year’s draft, is rehabbing his surgically-repaired ACL in his left knee while hoping the nerve damage he suffered regenerates. He’s also only eight months removed from knee surgery, which is why he’s not expected to play this season.
