How is Kirby Smart adjusting to life as head coach?
He can pinpoint the moment when he allowed himself to think about this next step. It was early in 2010, Smart was 34 years old and Alabama had just beaten Texas to win the national championship. The opportunity to become a head coach would come, he knew. And clearly he was patient, waiting for the right destination. So in a way, the last five years have led to this. The staff is filled out. The roster is set. Smart must deal with the pressure of replacing a legend in Mark Richt and returning to his alma mater, so it will be interesting to see what kind of coach he will become.
