Though training camp ‘stinks,’ Larry Fitzgerald focused on first Super Bowl ring

GLENDALE, Ariz. — It’s no secret that Arizona Cardinals star receiver Larry Fitzgerald doesn’t like training camp.

That, actually, might be putting it nicely.

But the 13-year veteran knows, for as much as he would prefer not having the month-long preparation, it’s necessary for him to achieve the one goal he’s seeking: a championship.

“Training camp stinks when you’re bad. Training camp stinks when you’re good,” Fitzgerald said. “It’s training camp. I’m 30 minutes from home sleeping in a hotel. But it’s a job and you focus on what you can control, and that’s your effort every day and getting out here and getting better and going through the monotonous process of training camp.”

The result of weeks of repetition can produce, at least this season, Fitzgerald’s best opportunity at securing that elusive ring. The Cardinals finished 13-3 last season with a team that Fitzgerald said “was capable” of winning a title, but ended up losing in the NFC Championship Game, one step away from Fitzgerald playing in his second Super Bowl.

He took the loss hard, tearing up during the postgame news conference.
