Novak Djokovic: ‘I never thought about skipping Olympics, it’s the most important event after Slams’

It seems that entering into the Rogers Cup without any expectations as Novak Djokovic had mentioned in his pre-tournament press conference paid off for him. The Serb capped off a slow start in the tournament with a win in the final against Kei Nishikori in straight sets 6-3, 7-5 to win his 30th Masters 1000 title.
‘I came to this tournament with the goal of playing as many matches as possible, I lost in the first round in doubles and I struggled to find rhythm in the first two matches in singles. I raised my game as the tournament progressed. Today I served well both on the first and second serve against one of the best returners like Kei, and I did not make any double faults,’ said Djokovic. ‘My two best performances came in the semi-finals and the final. It came at the right moment for me. It’s a process like any other that has happened many times in my career, where I would start a tournament still feeling a little bit uncomfortable on the court and searching for my rhythm, and then, as the tournament goes on, I find that proper comfort level with shots, with the way I feel, with my mental attitude,’ the champion added.
