Dodgers unfazed by impending trade deadline

LOS ANGELES — Inside of 24 hours remaining before the non-waiver trade deadline and the Los Angeles Dodgers’ clubhouse seemingly is in wait mode.

Are new additions coming? If reinforcements are on the horizon, how much of the active roster will be changed? Is a difference maker on the way, or is it somebody to fill a role other than frontline pitcher or RBI machine?

Rumors of Dodgers acquisitions are aplenty from pitchers Chris Archer and Matt Moore to outfielder Jay Bruce. There is even speculation the Dodgers could land pitchers Chris Sale or Carlos Quintana, if they want to part with a mountain of prospects, with Julio Urias believed to be at the top of the list.

There remains business to be tended to, however, so it is not all recliners and lemonade until news develops. The Dodgers showed they can avoid distraction, destroying the Arizona Diamondbacks 14-3 on Sunday.

“I think there’s a lot of things that are going on outside this clubhouse that are out of our control,” manager Dave Roberts said. “Our guys are focused on playing well. You saw the at-bats today. You saw the conviction behind each pitcher that took the baseball today. Guys were picking each other up and that’s kind of what we’ve created.”

Yasmani Grandal and Corey Seager each capped strong Julys with home runs, as the Dodgers rolled on a day when starter Bud Norris had to leave in the first inning because of back muscle tightness. Joc Pederson came off the bench to hit a home run for the third consecutive game. Ross Stripling started a parade of six relievers that held Arizona to two runs over 8 2/3 innings and no hits over the final five.

The victory was no small feat, even against the last-place club in the National League West. The Diamondbacks have been giving the Dodgers fits of late, as the clubs have gone 3-3 against each other since the second half started just two weekends ago.

Norris was around for only an out Sunday and has been on the premises for only after a month since being traded, but he has witnessed enough to be impressed.
