- Updated: July 31, 2016
Larnaka, Cyprus, July 31, 2016 – Dutch Nika Daalderop and Mexime van Driel prevented an all-Brazilian final at the FIVB U19 World Championships in Larnaka by defeating Brazilian qualifiers Vitoria De Souza Rodrigues and Ana Carolina De Almeida Costa 2-0 (21-18, 21-15).In the other semifinal on Sunday Brazil’s Eduarda ‘Duda’ Lisboa and Victoria Lopes Pereira Dude defeated USA’s Kathryn Plummer and Milica Mirkovic 2-1 (21-16, 19-21, 15-10).“This feels amazing”, said 17-year old Van Driel, who made her FIVB debut in Larnaka. “Of course I was hoping for a final, but if it was going to happen? So we just regained control again.”Her more experienced partner, 17-year old Daalderop, has good memories of Cyprus. Last year she won the U20 European title here in Larnaka with her regular partner Joy Stubbe. This year they defended that title with success in Antalya and last week Daalderop and Stubbe claimed the national title as well.“This final is totally different from …
