UFC 201 co-main event result: Kowalkiewicz defeats Namajunas in grueling fight

At stake in the co-main event of UFC 201: Lawler vs. Woodley was a potential strawweight title shot for contenders Rose Namajunas and Karolina Kowalkiewicz. In the end, it was Poland’s Kowalkiewicz whose superb Muay Thai striking and work in the clinch wore out Namajunas in a grueling, exciting contest.
It was a feeling out process in the opening minute. Namajunas slipped in a right hand on the jaw of Kowalkiewicz. Namajunas threw a lovely straight right to counter a Karolina leg kick. Good movement by Namajunas on a successful left hook. Kowalkiewicz partially connected on a right hand. Another right hand and a leg kick by the native of Poland after Namajunas slipped on a leg kick. Namajunas found a home for the counter left in a flurry.
