- Updated: July 31, 2016
Indians prospect Francisco Mejia extended his hit streak to 42 consecutive games when he singled in his second at-bat in Class A Advanced Lynchburg’s game at Winston-Salem on Saturday.
Mejia, ranked No. 6 on the Indians’ Top 30 Prospects list, grounded out in his first at-bat before hitting an infield single on a chopper to third base in his second trip to the plate to move his feat to 42 games. His streak is the longest in the Minors since James McOwen hit in 45 straight for High Desert in 2009.
Entering Saturday, Mejia had posted a .388/.411/.618 slash line, with 10 doubles, two triples, eight homers and 37 RBIs during his streak, which began over two months ago, on May 27.
