Blue Jays sign veteran Kratz to Minors deal

TORONTO — The Blue Jays brought back a familiar face this week, signing catcher Erik Kratz to a Minor League deal on Thursday.
The acquisition provides the team with some additional depth down the stretch. The 36-year-old is a veteran of seven Major League seasons and will likely join the Blue Jays as a callup in September.
Starting catcher Russell Martin returned on Monday from a minor injury to his left knee, and while an MRI showed no structural damage, the Blue Jays have few options in the event Martin were to miss any time.
