Falcons’ Mohamed Sanu ready to separate himself from the rest

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — Watching Julio Jones suffer a minor injury Day 1 of training camp might make you wonder if newcomer Mohamed Sanu could take over as the primary receiver for the Atlanta Falcons if Jones, for some reason, happened to be sidelined.
No player is truly capable of filling Jones’ shoes. However, at least Sanu has a big, physical presence that resembles his superstar teammate. Plus Sanu, so far, has displayed great hands, including the crowd-pleasing, one-handed stab he made of a Matt Ryan pass near the sideline Thursday morning.
“You’ve got to be ready to play anyway, if Julio is there or not,” Sanu said. “It’s my job to come out and perform. You’ve got to step it up from the beginning. If you’re stepping up just because a guy gets hurt, then I’m not playing to my full potential. You have to always go out there and play to your full potential.”
