A hostile second-hour spell from Neil Wagner dismantled Zimbabwe’s top order, which squandered starts on a surface that offered a surprising amount of bounce. With Test cricket returning to Queens after a five-year hiatus, the home side appeared startled by unfamiliar conditions and an aggressive opposition attack, which took the early honours.
Graeme Cremer’s decision to bat first is one most captains make at Queens, known for giving batsmen a tricky first 15 balls or so before easing out. But, after his side slipped from 35 for 1 to 36 for 4, Cremer may be ruing putting his inexperienced line-up in the firing line.
