Chris Tillman’s off night shows just how good Orioles’ ace has been

BALTIMORE — Don’t engrave Chris Tillman’s Cy Young Award just yet.
On Tuesday at Camden Yards, Tillman got knocked around by the Colorado Rockies, allowing nine hits and six earned runs in five innings as the Baltimore Orioles lost 6-3 to end their five-game winning streak. The six runs tied a season high for the Orioles’ ace, who entered the game with a 14-2 record, a 3.18 ERA and legit postseason award buzz. Even though one bumpy outing doesn’t necessarily squelch the Cy Young speculation, it does serve as a reminder of just how dependable the 28-year-old righty has been this season.
Heading into Tuesday’s game, the Orioles were 17-3 when Tillman started, compared to 41-37 when anybody else started. That .850 winning percentage in Tillman’s outings was the best in the American League, and those 17 wins were the most in the majors behind any one starter. In other words, Baltimore’s No. 1 has been really good this season.
