Is Roger Federer the GOAT or Not?

Roger Federer is considered to be the best player in tennis’ history. Not only is his style of play effective on all surfaces, but his performances too are excellent. Of course, there’s also the records he’s created and equaled, most important of which is his winning 17 Grand Slam titles. All these indicate he could be considered without any doubt, the Greatest of All Time (GOAT).
And yet despite all his achievements and despite his fantastic style of play, there are some interesting points to consider. During the years of his domination, which coincided with the retirement of Pete Sampras and the last phase of Andre Agassi’s career, the Swiss didn’t have a great rival, who went toe-to-toe with him. His opponents at that time were David Nalbandian, Lleyton Hewitt and Andy Roddick. Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic hadn’t even hit the tennis scene then. The Spaniard made his presence felt in 2005, by his first Major at the French Open that year, while the Serb had to wait until 2008 to win his first Major, at the Australian Open.
