Reds ‘staying busy’ as Trade Deadline approaches

SAN FRANCISCO — Monday left Major League clubs exactly one week to go before the Aug. 1 non-waiver Trade Deadline. The Reds could be one of the teams that figures prominently in rumors this week, although no transactions appear to be imminent.
“We’re staying busy,” Reds general manager Dick Williams said by phone from Cincinnati. “We’re engaged in multiple discussions with multiple teams. We’re operating on a couple of fronts. It’s hard to say if we’ll get something done.”
Williams plans to join the club in San Francisco on Tuesday. Reds president of baseball operations Walt Jocketty arrived in town Monday. Both spent the weekend in Cooperstown to attend Ken Griffey Jr.’s induction into the Hall of Fame.
