A few notes from around the boxing world:
Heavyweight titleholder Deontay Wilder and challenger Chris Arreola tested negative in their Voluntary Anti-Doping Association blood and urine tests in conjunction with their July 16 title fight in Birmingham, Alabama, according to the Alabama Athletic Commission. Wilder knocked out Arreola in the eighth round.
Light heavyweight Eleider “Storm” Alvarez (19-0, 10 KOs), 32, a Colombia-born, Montreal-based contender, will face late replacement Robert Berridge (27-4-1, 21 KOs), a 31-year-old southpaw from New Zealand, on Friday night (Spike, 9 ET/PT) at the Videotron Centre in Quebec City. Alvarez was supposed to face former world champion Chad Dawson, but he suffered a training injury. Alvarez, as long as he wins, looms as the mandatory challenger for the main event winner between world champion Adonis Stevenson (27-1, 22 KOs) and Thomas Williams Jr. (20-1, …
