DENVER — With the Aug. 1 non-waiver Trade Deadline looming, the Rockies’ brass are probably trying to decide if they can contend for the postgseason or if they should sell. With a 5-2 homestand, the team is making a case that they can contend.
The Rockies’ 7-2 victory over the Braves on Sunday capped off a four-game sweep, and though the team is four games below .500, they are only six games out of the second Wild Card.
“We’re not naïve,” infielder Daniel Descalso said. “There are guys that have been around through some Trade Deadlines and seen stuff happen. We have a good group in here, I hope that we play well enough to give ourselves a chance to stay together and make a run, but at the end of the day, that’s on us to go out and prove to our front office that we’re worth a shot at sticking together.”
