Tennis- British No.1, third seed Johanna Konta has won her maiden WTA title after edging the former world No.1, 7-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams in 3 sets 7-5, 5-7, 6-2 in the final of Bank of the West Classic WTA Tournament in Stanford.
Venus Williams was looking to complete the half-century of her titles, as she had 49 titles. It was Williams’ 80th WTA final of career, and eighth in Stanford. 2-time Stanford champion had first reached final here 18 years back in 1998, when she had lost to Lindsay Davenport in 3 sets.
