Blanco likely headed to DL after fracturing finger

PITTSBURGH — Exacerbating a 5-4 loss to the Pirates on Sunday, third baseman Andres Blanco fractured his left index finger and is likely headed to the disabled list.
As Pirates outfielder Gregory Polanco tried to steal third base in the fifth inning, Blanco took a throw from catcher Carlos Ruiz and made a move to tag Polanco with his left glove hand. Blanco’s hand was crunched between the spikes of Polanco’s left cleat and the bag.
Manager Pete Mackanin said Blanco’s finger took four stitches and will be re-examined before they determine if surgery is needed to further clean up the …
