Yankees avoiding trade noise, focusing on winning

NEW YORK — Are they buying or are they selling?

When it comes to the New York Yankees, that’s what everyone wants to know.

But until they find out, the current iteration of the team is playing some pretty good baseball.

After starting 0-2 on its 10-game homestand, New York capped a 6-2 finish with a 5-2 victory over the San Francisco Giants on Sunday afternoon at Yankee Stadium.

The Yankees (50-48) still find themselves 7 1/2 games back in the American League East and 4 1/2 games back in the wild-card race. On their homestand, they lost two out of three to Boston before taking three of four from AL East-leading Baltimore and two of three from San Francisco, which sits in first in the NL West.

“It just shows you we’re capable of playing good baseball against the teams that are leading divisions,” Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. “We played three good teams and fared pretty well.”
