Hinch: No sense of urgency to make a deal

HOUSTON — It’s no secret the Astros would like to add a starting pitcher and another left-handed reliever before the Aug. 1 non-waiver Trade Deadline, though general manager Jeff Luhnow said recently there’s no sense of urgency. Manager A.J. Hinch echoed those sentiments Sunday in the wake of a report by FanRag Sports that the Astros were one of the teams “pushing hard” for Padres starter Andrew Cashner.
Hinch was working in the Padres’ front office when San Diego acquired Cashner from the Cubs after the 2011 season. The 6-foot-6 right-hander is 4-7 this year with a 4.79 ERA in 15 starts, so he would probably only be a marginal upgrade at best over anyone the Astros currently have in the rotation.
