Glasnow lands on DL with shoulder discomfort

PITTSBURGH — Many eagerly anticipated Tyler Glasnow’s first career start at PNC Park. Discomfort in his throwing shoulder ensured it wasn’t a long one.
Glasnow, rated by MLBPipeline.com as the top Pirates prospect and the No. 8 prospect in all of baseball, left his second Major League start while facing the third hitter of the fourth inning of what ended up as a 7-4 Pittsburgh win over Philadelphia on Saturday. The Pirates then placed the right-hander on the 15-day disabled list Sunday, recalling fellow righty A.J. Schugel from Triple-A Indianapolis.
Glasnow appeared to react awkwardly after throwing a 2-0 called strike to Peter Bourjos with two on and no out in a 2-2 game. Manager Clint Hurdle and team trainer Todd Tomczyk quickly came out to examine Glasnow and talk to the rookie, who soon thereafter walked off the mound to the dugout.
