Saunders shows power in 1st matchup with M’s

TORONTO — Michael Saunders spent his first six seasons in the Major Leagues with the Mariners, and he faced his former team for the first time on Friday night.
The 29-year-old was at the forefront in a pair of critical moments in the Blue Jays’ 2-1 loss, finishing 1-for-4 with a home run, while also striking out to end the game in the bottom of the ninth.
A native of Victoria, British Columbia, Saunders took fellow Canadian and good friend James Paxton deep in the bottom of the second inning, recording his 17th home run of the season — just two shy of the career-high 19 he hit in 2012.
