— Bellator MMA (@BellatorMMA) July 23, 2016 Darrion Caldwell made one mistake, and Joe Taimanglo capitalized on it. Tamainglo submitted the heavily favored Caldwell with a third-round guillotine choke in the Bellator 159 headliner on Saturday at the Kansas Star Arena in Mulvane, Kansas. A No. 1 contender in waiting, Caldwell (9-1, 6-1 UFC) tapped nine seconds into round three, throwing the top of the Bellator MMA bantamweight division into an immediate state of upheaval behind champion Eduardo Dantas. Caldwell controlled virtually all 10 minutes of the first two rounds, utilizing takedowns and suffocating top control to corral the former Pacific Xtreme Combat champion. He briefly mounted Taimanglo in the first round and connected with a flying knee in the second but failed to shake the Guam native’s resolve. Early in round three, Caldwell swooped in for an ill-advised double-leg and found himself hopelessly entangled in the guillotine. Taimanglo (23-6-1), who missed weight for the match, secured his grip and squeezed for the submission. Related » Bellator 159 Round-by-Round Scoring
