25-year-old Portuguese Gastao Elias is having a two weeks out of his dreams, as he reached back-to-back ATP semi-finals, never playing in the last 4 in his career before Bastad! Yesterday he saved a match point against the first seed Pablo Cuevas, and today was easier, beating Pablo Carreno Busta 6-4 6-4 in 72 minutes. It wasn’t the match of the highest quality, with 18 break points in total, but confident Elias was just enough better to prevail in straight sets, scoring 6 breaks and losing his serve 4 times. Both players had their chances on the return but Carreno Busta lost more than half of the points on his serve, so he couldn’t expect any different outcome. Gastao started stronger, breaking in game 2 for a 3-0 lead before Spaniard came back with his break in game 5.
