Jeff Gordon is set to get back behind the wheel of a Sprint Cup car this weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The four-time series champion and future Hall of Famer will drive for Dale Earnhardt Jr. in Sunday’s Crown Royal Presents the Wounded Warrior Coalition 400. He’ll be shooting for his record sixth Brickyard win in the race as he pinch hits for Earnhardt Jr., who remains sidelines with concussion-like symptoms. Gordon will run both this week in Indianapolis and next week at Pocono in a deal that came together quickly over the last several days. “I’m certainly a little overwhelmed with everything that’s happened in the last week,” Gordon said Friday morning as he met the media in Indianapolis. “But most of all, I’m proud to be here and help his team out. This is Dale’s team. What we want most of all is for him to be healthy for the long haul, and hopefully this is a good sign of things to come for him.” “For me, my goal is to come here and give the team the best effort that I can, and the get them the best result. Hopefully it’s a good one.” It will mark Gordon’s 798th career Sprint Cup start in a career that he believed would come to an end …
