ATP WASHINGTON and UMAG: Berlocq, Fognini and Chardy all reaches the quarter-final

ATP 250 Umag (Outdoor Clay) :
Carlos Berlocq started his 2016 campaign late, and he came here to Umag with only one ATP win under his belt. He will now play in his first ATP quarter-final since Buenos Aires 2015, after the 8th seed Jiri Vesely was forced to retire in the second set, trailing 7-5 3-0. Up to that point, the Czech player struggled to make an impact, losing serve 4 times, and he decided that he had enough, sending the Berlocq to the last 8. This was their 2nd meeting, with Carlos victorious in Metz 2013 as well. Vesely had the first set in his hands, breaking in game 8 for a 5-3 lead, serving for the set in the following game. It wasn’t to be, though, as Berlocq raised his game to rattle off 4 games in a row to take the opener 7-5. His strike continued at the start of the second set, and after losing 7 games in a row Vesely retired, obviously not being able to give his 100%.Fabio Fognini had a very poor run of results after reaching the semi-final in Munich, so he will be very pleased to find himself in the last …
