ATP WASHINGTON and UMAG: Berlocq, Fognini and Chardy all reaches the quarter-final

Carlos Berlocq started his 2016 campaign late, and he came here to Umag with only one ATP win under his belt. He will now play in his first ATP quarter-final since Buenos Aires 2015, after the 8th seed Jiri Vesely was forced to retire in the second set, trailing 7-5 3-0. Up to that point, the Czech player struggled to make an impact, losing serve 4 times, and he decided that he had enough, sending the Berlocq to the last 8. This was their 2nd meeting, with Carlos victorious in Metz 2013 as well. Vesely had the first set in his hands, breaking in game 8 for a 5-3 lead, serving for the set in the following game. It wasn’t to be, though, as Berlocq raised his game to rattle off 4 games in a row to take the opener 7-5.
