Mozeliak focused on boosting ‘pen before Deadline

ST. LOUIS — The Cardinals aren’t keeping their needs as a secret as the Aug. 1 non-waiver Trade Deadline moves closer. St. Louis will be in the market for help in their bullpen over the next 12 days.
“We’ll see if we value it correctly,” Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said. “I think our focus will still be if we can advance the bullpen.”
Mozeliak has made moves for relievers before. Last season, the Cardinals acquired Steve Cishek from Miami for Kyle Barraclough, and the club traded for Marc Rzepczynski and Octavio Dotel near the Deadline in 2011.
The decision to seek bullpen help comes even as the Cardinals have three everyday position players on the disabled list in Brandon Moss, Matt Carpenter and Jhonny Peralta. Mozeliak remains confident that their eventual return means he won’t need another bat.
