2016 18andUnder European Junior Championships: Tsitsipas, Blancaneaux, Oliel, Kecmanovic and Moutet reaches 3rd round

European Junior Championships is one of the most prominent events in the Tennis Europe calendar, gathering the European best juniors in U14, U16, and U18 category, on the clay courts of course. It has all begin way back in 1976 in Berlin, and the winners list became better and better over the years. In the oldest category, players like Ivan Lendl, Mats Wilander, Alberto Berasategui, Albert Costa, Carlos Moya, Sebastien Grosjean, Robin Soderling have all won the titles. Tournament venue has changed over the years, but it settled in Switzerland’s Klosters, in the beautiful district of Prättigau/Davos, with great facilities for the players, both on and off the court. Some of the best juniors are in the chase for the title with 128 players draw (the first seeds (lots of byes in the first round though).

The 2nd round brought mostly one-sided matches, with only 3 out of 32 that went into a decider. Also, the seeds did a good job, as 13 of them reaching the 3rd round. The biggest shock of the day for sure was the elimination of the 2nd seed Mate Valkusz from Hungary, who lost to Finn Bass from Great Britain, in what has been the last European Junior Championships for the last year’s quarter-finalist.
