Jake Arrieta returns to his Cy Young form in loss to Mets

CHICAGO — Forget the lack of clutch hitting against top pitching — we can save that for another blog post — and forget closer Hector Rondon showing a few cracks every so often. The most important narrative surrounding the Chicago Cubs’ 2-1 loss to the New York Mets on Tuesday night came down to one thing: Jake being Jake.
Cy Young winner Jake Arrieta looked like his old self, filling up the strike zone to the tune of a 74.1 percent strike rate. Early in the game it was even better; he threw 16 of his first 17 pitches for strikes and 31 of his first 37. This was the Arrieta who dominated the league for so long. He had been missing for a while, having lost three of his past four starts.
“That was a little more like it,” Arrieta said afterward. “Really aggressive in the strike zone and using my off-speed pretty well throughout the game.”
