The Pro Football Hall of Fame will announce the presenters for each of this year’s inductees next week, but Brett Favre said Tuesday that his first choice would have been his late father.

It sounds like Irvin Favre, who died on the eve of one of his son’s greatest performances in the NFL, will be a big part of Brett Favre’s induction speech on Aug. 6 in Canton, Ohio.

“My dad would have been, he definitely would have been doing it,” Favre said when asked who would present him. “And I’ll talk about that during the induction. But you’re right. Had he been around, he would be doing it.”

Irvin Favre, who was affectionately known as “Big Irv,” died of a heart attack on Dec. 21, 2003, at age 58. The next night, Brett Favre threw for 399 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Green Bay Packers to a 41-7 rout of the Oakland Raiders in one of the most memorable games of Favre’s career and in Monday Night Football history.
