Notes: Injured Dawson withdraws from Alvarez bout

Light heavyweight mandatory challenger Eleider “Storm” Alvarez (19-0, 10 KOs) is in need of a new opponent for his Premier Boxing Champions co-feature on July 29 (Spike, 9 p.m. ET/PT) at the Videotron Centre in Quebec City. Alvarez, a Colombian based in Montreal, was due to face former world champion Chad Dawson (34-4, 19 KOs) but Dawson suffered a shoulder injury in his training camp, his team said on Tuesday.

“While we were waiting for Chad Dawson to join the planned (media) conference call (Tuesday), we learned from his manager that he injured his shoulder in training, and that he has withdrawn from his fight against Eleider Alvarez,” promoter Yvon Michel said. “We are already looking for a replacement opponent so Eleider retains his spot on Spike TV.”
