Longhorn Long In Tooth Waves Farewell: Kris Kubik, Reese’s Right-Hand Man Retires

After 34 years as the right-hand man to University of Texas coach Eddie Reese, assistant Kris Kubik announced his retirement on Monday. Kubik served as an assistant to Reese at Auburn University, and then made the move to Austin when Reese accepted the Texas coaching role in 1979. Together, they turned the Longhorns into a national power.
During Kubik’s tenure, Texas captured 12 NCAA championships, including titles the past two years, and helped the Longhorns to nine runnerup finishes at the NCAA Champs. Kubik and Reese watched 32 athletes qualify for the Olympic Games, with the likes of Josh Davis, Aaron Peirsol and Brendan Hansen helping to claim 60 Olympic medals, including 36 of the gold variety.
