Players of the Week

Player — 2B Scott Kingery, Clearwater… The 22-year-old Kingery batted .448 (13-29) with a double, triple, five RBI, a walk, five runs scored, three stolen bases and a 1.003 OPS. He hit safely in all six of his games, recording a career-high four hits on July 16. Kingery leads the Florida State League in hits (104), doubles (28) and runs scored (56), is tied for third in stolen bases (25) and tied for ninth in batting average (.295). Kingery was selected by the Phillies in the second round of the June 2015 draft.

Pitcher — LHP Elniery Garcia, Clearwater… Garcia, 21, made one start for Clearwater, tossing a career-high 8.0 scoreless innings with just one hit allowed and six strikeouts. He faced the minimum through 6.0 innings and carried a no-hitter into the eighth. The Dominican Republic native has allowed no earned runs in five of his 12 starts, and two or fewer in 10 of 12. He is tied for first in the league in lowest opponents’ batting average (.206) and ranks fourth in ERA (2.23). Garcia was signed by the Phillies as an amateur free agent on December 9, 2011.

Lehigh Valley IronPigs — International League North Division…55-40, 3rd place… Due to the triple-A All-Star Break, the IronPigs played only four games-the final four of seven straight against Buffalo. Lehigh Valley took the four-game series 3-1 and won five of those seven games against the Bisons.

Top hitting performers — 1B Brock Stassi was 6-for-12 (.500) with three doubles, a home run, four RBI, four walks and a .625 on-base percentage in four games… OF Nick Williams batted .471 (8-17), doubling four times and driving in three runs… SS J.P. Crawford had a double, home run, four RBI, a walk and three runs scored while batting .294 (5-17).

Top pitching performers — RHP Jake Thompson made one start, tossing 7.0 shutout innings with just three hits, one walk allowed and five strikeouts. Thompson has allowed one earned run in his last 31.1 innings (0.29 ERA)… RHP David Buchanan allowed a run on five hits in 7.0 innings pitched during his only start of the week.

Reading Fightin Phils — Eastern League Eastern Division …65-29, 1st place… The Fightins split four games with Trenton, losing twice by shutout but allowing only three total runs in their two wins. Reading’s week was also shortened due to the All-Star Break, with top Fightins performers for the Eastern League All-Stars including 1B Rhys Hoskins (1-3, HR, 3 RBI, R), C Jorge Alfaro (3-3, R), INF Jesmuel Valentin (3-5, 2 2B, 2 R) and RHP Nick Pivetta (1.0 perfect IP, SO).

Top hitting performers — C Jorge Alfaro batted .286 (4-14) with an RBI and two multi-hit games. He has multiple hits in 24 of his 63 games this season.
