Schaefer granted promoter’s license in Nevada

Richard Schaefer’s newly founded Ringstar Sports was granted a promoter’s license by the Nevada State Athletic Commission at the panel’s monthly meeting on Monday.
Schaefer, the former longtime CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, left the company after a nasty breakup with close friend, business partner and majority shareholder Oscar De La Hoya in June 2014, but announced his return to the boxing business last month.
He was quickly licensed in New York, Texas and California and on Monday got the thumbs up from the Nevada commission with a 5-0 vote to grant him a license.
Nevada is considered the toughest state in the country in which to secure a promoter’s license because of the extremely detailed paperwork and background information required from applicants. But Schaefer is a well-known figure to the commission based on his years of experience promoting many of boxing’s biggest events in Las Vegas when he was with Golden Boy, and he had …
