When Henrik Stenson defeated Phil Mickelson by three strokes to win The Open, he took home his first career major at 40 years old. He joined an elite list of mature athletes that have had success this year.

Stenson finished 20-under par to win The Open, matching Jason Day’s mark for most shots under par in a major, and his 72-hole score of 264 set a new record, breaking David Toms’ mark of 265 in the 2001 PGA Championship, where too, the runner-up was Phil Mickelson.
