Willis hopes Rodriguez can pitch more aggressively

BOSTON — Red Sox left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez allowed just four hits in Sunday’s game against the Blue Jays. The downside, though, was that each was a home run.
Those four homers proved to be too big of a hurdle for Boston to overcome in a 5-4 loss.
“I just couldn’t hit the spots when it counted,” Rodriguez said. “Four hits, four home runs. I tried to throw the ball where I wanted, but sometimes, you miss badly. That happened today.”
Rodriguez allowed a solo home run to Jose Bautista to begin the game before surrendering a solo shot to Darwin Barney and a two-run dinger to Edwin Encarnacion in the third inning. Russell Martin then belted a solo shot with one out in the sixth.
The lefty finished the day having allowed five runs on four hits in 5 2/3 innings for the loss, his first of the season.
While Rodriguez’s fastball velocity consistently hovered in the mid-90s, Red Sox pitching coach Carl Willis said he would have liked to see the left-hander use more secondary pitches.
