Reds strike early but drop finale to Nats

CINCINNATI — Riding a season-high four-game win streak, the Reds seemed destined for their second sweep of the season after going up big on the Nationals early in Sunday’s series finale at Great American Ball Park. The Nationals spoiled that with a mid-game offensive resurgence and held on for the 10-9 victory.
The Reds opened up on Nationals starter Tanner Roark in the second inning, taking a 5-0 lead while sending 10 men to the plate. Ivan De Jesus Jr. hit a two-run double into the left-field corner, and a poor play off the wall by Ben Revere allowed a third run to score. Tyler Holt added a two-run single, the Reds’ fourth single of the inning. Roark lasted three innings and allowed five runs and seven hits.
Reds starter Jon Moscot could not hold the lead, as the Nationals responded with their own five-run inning in the fourth. Bryce Harper singled before Daniel Murphy and Wilson Ramos hit back-to-back homers. After a Clint Robinson double, the Reds opted to intentionally walk Danny Espinosa to get to pinch-hitter Stephen Drew, who singled home a run, ending Moscot’s day.
Reliever Daniel Wright came in and gave up one more hit to Revere, which scored the last run charged to Moscot. The final line on Moscot was five runs on five hits in 3 2/3 …
