Giants starting pitching keying their recent run

The San Francisco Giants enter Sunday night’s game with the St. Louis Cardinals (8 ET, ESPN) with the second-best record in baseball behind only the Chicago Cubs. Their starting pitching has been the key to their success this year coming off a torrid May where they led the league with a 2.47 ERA.
The Giants started May slow, going 5-5 in the month’s first 10 games. Madison Bumgarner took the hill on May 11 against the Blue Jays and started a 23-game run entering Sunday where the Giants are 18-5 and their starters have posted a 1.95 ERA, best in baseball.

Giants starters ended May with a 2.47 ERA and according to Elias Sports Bureau research, that was the first time since September 1990 (2.04) that Giants starters had an ERA under 2.50 in a full month.
