ATP STUTTGART – MAIN DRAW: Federer could meet Fritz in the second round, del Potro plays Dimitrov

History of tennis in Stuttgart reaches back to the first years of 20th century, with Stuttgart Open founded in 1916, exactly 100 years ago! Played strictly on clay, the tournament was the part of the ATP calendar in almost every year of the Open era, with the players like Bjorn Borg, Henri Leconte, Ivan Lendl, Andre Agassi, Goran Ivanisevic, Michael Stich, Thomas Muster, Alex Corretja, Gustavo Kuerten, Rafael Nadal, Juan Martin del Potro and others on the winners list. Last year, the organizers made a huge switch, going to grass surface for the first time, and moving the date from July to Jun before Wimbledon. Rafael Nadal was victorious in that inaugural event on the green surface, in one of his rare successes on the grass in the last few years. Spaniard will not defend his title but the organizers did found a perfect replacement, in the name of 7-time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer, who will play in Stuttgart for the first time since competing in indoor Masters 1000 event in this city 15 years ago!
