Michael Conforto ends hitless drought with timely RBI as Mets top Marlins

MIAMI — Michael Conforto landed in the lineup shortly before the first pitch, when Yoenis Cespedes was scratched because of right hip soreness. Conforto then finally showed signs of breaking out of a deep slump.
Conforto snapped an 0-for-20 drought with a game-tying RBI single off David Phelps in the eighth inning, and the New York Mets went on to a 6-4 win over the Miami Marlins on Saturday.
Matt Reynolds, pinch hitting for Juan Lagares later in the eighth, delivered the go-ahead RBI single against Phelps. There was no immediate explanation for Lagares’ departure, though he made a diving catch two innings earlier that saved a pair of runs and might have been injured on the play.

Alejandro De Aza added a two-run double in the ninth. With the Mets’ bench depleted by injury, Jacob deGrom pinch hit with the bases loaded later in the frame. He popped out.
